Dr Mitchell Moon is a thrombosis researcher in the Atherothrombosis and Vascular Biology laboratory who has an interest in developing new drugs and treatments for heart attack and stroke. Heart attack and stroke remain the deadliest diseases in the world and improved drugs for prevention and treatment of these diseases are sorely needed.

Dr Moon completed his PhD at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (Monash University) in 2020 where he worked on developing first-in-class inhibitors against a new target for heart attack and stroke prevention. Since moving to the Baker Heart and Diabetes institute in 2020 he has been working on developing a new nanoparticle-based technology for delivering clot-busting drugs directly to a thrombus in heart attack and stroke. By doing so, Dr Moon believes that the efficacy and safety profile of these drugs will be greatly improved. These technologies are also intended to improve treatment of heart attack and stroke in rural and remote communities, where interventional techniques available in large city hospitals are not possible. Dr Moon is a member of the Baker Early Career Scientist committee and holds an honorary appointment at the University of Melbourne Baker Department of Cardiometabolic Health.
