Adam is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, investigating how air pollution contributes to the development of subclinical cardiovascular disease. His research examines the cardiovascular impacts of air pollution exposure using data from Australian cohort studies and clinical trials, including the Hazelwood Health Study, CDAH, CAUGHT-CAD, VIC-ELF and TAS-ELF. Air pollution exposures are estimated using geocoded addresses and spatiotemporal modelling approaches based on Australian air quality data. These datasets enable the study of early cardiovascular changes from childhood through to older adulthood.
Through this work, Adam aims to clarify the biological pathways linking air pollution exposure to early cardiovascular alterations, identify opportunities for early detection well before clinical events occur, and generate evidence to inform intervention strategies and public health responses in the context of increasingly frequent and prolonged bushfires.
