Females needed for research study
The FRIENDS study is looking for participants with Long Covid, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) to help us study how the brain and heart are affected.
Who can join?
We are looking for women who:
- are aged 18 or over
- suffer from Long Covid, ME/CFS or POTS
- OR
- have no history of Long Covid, ME/CFS or POTS (healthy control participants).
Apply to participate in this study
What does the study involve?
Through recording body and heart activity combined with imaging of the brain, we aim to measure changes within the brain in people with PASC (Long Covid), evaluating potential overlap with POTS and ME/CFS.
Study participants will be asked to attend 2 visits, at the Baker Specialist Clinics and the Melbourne Brain Centre Imaging Unit (University of Melbourne). The overall time commitment will be around 5 hours across the 2 visits.
We will conduct a comprehensive assessment including:
- a blood test
- a tilt-table test with ultrasound
- a memory and mental agility test
- an exercise test
- MRI brain imaging with nerve activity recording and lower body negative pressure
- heart rate monitoring.
What are the benefits of taking part?
You will be helping our researchers to better understand Long Covid, ME/CFS and POTS.
