Did you know that heart disease and dementia usually coexist?

Do you have heart failure and have recently been hospitalised due to heart failure? If yes, you may be at risk of developing cognitive impairment and future dementia.

The COG-HF study aims to improve cognitive function and reduce risk of future dementia in people living with heart failure.

Who can participate?

We are recruiting participants in Melbourne and Tasmania.

You may be eligible for this study if you:

  • are aged 50 years and over
  • have been diagnosed with heart failure.

What is involved?

If you are eligible to take part, you will need to:

  • Attend our clinic between 1 and 5 times over 24 months. (clinic visits can be done remotely).
  • Have a health assessment and any routine blood tests if required.
  • Complete two brief questionnaires about your health (at the start and end of the study).
  • Report any hospital admissions you may have over 24 months.

Only half of all people who are eligible will:

  • Be assigned a cardiac nurse to manage your heart failure who will be working for this study and will train you and/or a family member on self-care, lifestyle, risks, and medications.
  • Have routine telehealth sessions via telephone or computer.
  • Participate in an exercise program which can then be completed at home.
