We value gender equity, diversity and inclusion and that’s why we are participating in structured, nationally-recognised programs to foster a workplace where everyone feels welcome, safe, supported, respected at work, and has the same opportunities for development and success.
We are participating in a data-driven accreditation program focused on gender equity and diversity in science. In 2018, the Baker Institute was one of the first 15 research institutes and universities recognised for its efforts to improve gender equity and diversity with an inaugural Athena SWAN Bronze Award from Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE). The Bronze level was the first SAGE award to be made available in Australia.
In 2024, we were awarded two prestigious SAGE Cygnet Awards for our work to improve equity, diversity and inclusion across the Institute. The awards acknowledge our efforts to create a gender-inclusive culture and our progress in formalising and promoting flexible workplace practices.
We are proud to be on this journey as we work towards a silver Athena Swan award.

Our progress in strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and piloting strategies for further reconciliation commitments is outlined in our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, which was endorsed by Reconciliation Australia in 2022.
This Action Plan is helping us to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation — something we are really proud of.
