Dr Mehnaz Pervin is a Postdoctoral Research Officer in the Cardiovascular Inflammation and Redox Biology laboratory, where she focuses on understanding how immune and inflammatory processes contribute to cardiovascular disease, particularly myocardial infarction and diabetes. Her research aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms linking inflammasome activation and post-translational modification of proteins, including Gasdermin D, which regulates inflammatory cell death processes leading to cardiac injury. By integrating molecular biology, proteomics, and transcriptomic approaches with preclinical models, she seeks to identify novel therapeutic targets to modulate inflammation and reduce tissue damage in cardiovascular disease.

Dr Pervin has over 12 years of research experience across immunology, molecular biology, and inflammatory diseases. She completed her PhD in the Department of Medicine at Monash University (2021). In her PhD, she investigated the role of post-translational modifications in regulating anti-inflammatory proteins, informing therapeutic strategies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This work provided her with a strong foundation in cell signalling and mechanistic disease pathways relevant to inflammation and cardiovascular biology.

Prior to her PhD, she completed a Master’s in Applied Biochemistry at Konkuk University, South Korea. She subsequently worked as a Researcher at the Research Institute of Inflammatory Diseases, Konkuk University, where she investigated how small molecules and natural compounds modulate inflammation and cancer by targeting key signalling networks and cellular processes.

Dr Pervin has authored 19 peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in mentoring Honours and Master’s students. She is dedicated to advancing mechanistic discoveries toward clinical translation, aiming to improve patient outcomes in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
