Dr Ryan McNally is a Senior Research Fellow and Pharmacist at King’s College London and Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London, funded by a British Heart Foundation Career Development award. His research focuses on developing personalised medicine approaches to hypertension – the world's leading cause of premature death – with the goal of identifying which treatments work best for which patients, and why. As both a practising clinical pharmacist and an active researcher, Ryan is uniquely positioned to translate scientific discoveries directly into improved patient care.
Ryan's BHF Fellowship programme centres on using predictors of antihypertensive drug response and co-development and feasibility testing of a pharmacist-led personalised adherence intervention. His work builds on the landmark Ancestry Informative Markers in Hypertension (AIM HY) trial and is conducted in partnership with Kidney Research UK, the UK Renal Registry (RaDaR), and the British and Irish Hypertension Society. His visit to the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in February 2026, supported by a British Cardiovascular-HEART UK Clinical Training Fellowship, focused on expanding this work in collaboration with Baker's world-leading research expertise.
Alongside his research, Ryan runs a community cardiovascular disease prevention clinic at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, where he sees patients with hypertension. He is Chair of the Early Career Researcher Committee of the British and Irish Hypertension Society (BIHS), sits on the BIHS Executive Committee, and is actively involved in mentorship at King's College London. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and delivered invited lectures at international conferences in Europe, the United States, and Australia.
