Every donation to the Baker Institute helps bring us closer to a world free from heart disease and diabetes. If you have questions about giving — how it works, where it goes, or how to manage your gift — you'll find the answers here. And if you can't find what you're looking for, our team is just a message away.
About our fundraising
-
We ask for your email address so that we may provide you with your receipt as promptly as possible. We ask for your best contact number just in case there are any issues with your donation.
-
We may ask for your date of birth as verification of identity. If you do not wish to have this information recorded, please let the team know and we can update our records accordingly.
-
We do have a team who seeks donations over the phone. If you have donated to us in the past, they’re likely getting in touch with you to see if you’re in a position to make a donation at this time. If you’ve received a call but not donated to the Baker Institute before, this is likely because you completed a quiz or survey on social media.
Should you have any concerns about a call you’ve received, please get in touch with our team who would be happy to investigate the matter for you. Please email us at fundraising@baker.edu.auor give us a call on 1800 827 040.
-
Yes, we do have teams who seek donations on the street, in shopping centres and door-to-door.
All our street fundraising teams are professionally trained and compliant with PFRA guidelines. If you have any concerns about a team or their location, please email us at fundraising@baker.edu.au or give us a call on 1800 827 040, option 2.
-
Of course. Receiving mail for a loved one who has died can be distressing. You can contact our team who will update our records on-the-spot. Sometimes, there is one last letter already on the way. If that’s the case, we sincerely apologise.
Please email us at fundraising@baker.edu.au or give us a call on 1800 827 040, opt 2.
Another resource you may find helpful is the Australian Bereavement Register. This free service helps to reduce the amount of mail sent to the deceased individual: tabr.com.au

We may, from time-to-time, securely share your information with key suppliers who help us prepare the fundraising materials you receive. We only send them information necessary for the task, and it is not held by them long-term.
We do also participate in charity initiative where we engage in data swaps with other like-minded organisations from time-to-time. This helps us reach new supporters and share the work that we do. Information like your email address, phone number and date of birth are NOT shared. If you do not wish for your information to be shared with like-minded organisations, please get in touch with us and the team can update this preference. If you have made this request in the past, please rest assured it is already recorded and being adhered to.
Making a donation
-
Yes!
The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient, meaning all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
-
Your donation funds groundbreaking research into the prediction, prevention and treatment of heart disease and diabetes.
Seventy cents in every dollar goes directly to research, while the remainder supports the Institute's operations and long-term growth activities.
-
Unfortunately, we're unable to direct donations to specific research projects. Different projects have different funding requirements depending on their type and stage, and some critical resources benefit all our laboratories.
Our experienced team ensures every donation is deployed across the Institute as effectively as possible.
-
If you donated online, your receipt will be sent to the email address you provided within a couple of hours. If we don't have your email, or you've asked us not to use it, your receipt will be posted and should arrive within a week — though it may take up to three weeks depending on your location.
If you're having trouble locating your receipt, please email fundraising@baker.edu.au or call us on 1800 827 040. It helps if you have your supporter number handy — it starts with a 'D' or 'H'.
-
Yes.
You can make a donation in memory of someone special, or create a tribute page where family and friends can contribute in their honour.

Regular donations
-
Groundbreaking science doesn't happen overnight — it takes years of sustained, dedicated work.
A regular gift as a Lab Partner helps our scientists focus on their research throughout the year, rather than spending time chasing short-term funding. It's also the most cost-effective way to give, as lower administration costs mean more of your donation goes directly to research.
