Metabolomics
Chelsea has a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from Victoria University and a Master of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics from La Trobe University. She is now working towards a Master of Biomedical Science at the University of Melbourne to deepen her research experience and scientific knowledge.
Her previous master’s research focused on a bacterial protein and its potential role in cancer progression, especially in triple-negative breast cancer. This work gave her practical experience in molecular biology, bacterial culture, recombinant protein expression and purification, and protein characterisation.
Chelsea’s current research has broadened into metabolism and lipid biology, where she is studying changes in tissue lipid profiles throughout development and ageing using mass spectrometry-based lipidomics, with particular interest in ether lipids and plasmalogens.
Chelsea’s passion for translational biomedical research is driven by a desire to make discoveries that deepen our understanding of disease, enhance health outcomes, and ultimately make a real difference in people’s lives, both locally and globally.
