We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join the Payroll team. This role plays a critical part in delivering accurate, timely and compliant payroll services that support our researchers, clinicians and professional staff.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will manage payroll for AMREP AS and provide support to the Baker Institute payroll, including acting as a backup to the Payroll Manager when required. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced and purpose-driven environment.

This role ensures accurate, timely and compliant payroll services that support staff across the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. By providing reliable advice, maintaining legislative compliance and enabling smooth payroll operations, the Payroll Officer allows researchers, clinicians and professional staff to focus on delivering life changing research in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Prepare and deliver payroll for AMREP AS and assist with Baker Institute payroll processing.
  • Provide end-to-end payroll administration including salary processing, superannuation, leave entitlements and records management.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation, Enterprise Agreements, and organisational policies.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries in a professional, timely and customer-focused manner.
  • Support audit requirements, reporting and payroll reconciliations.
  • Apply salaries, allowances and entitlements in line with HR advice.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy and statutory obligations.
  • Contribute to projects and continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function.

You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Payroll, Finance, Business or HR
    or
    Significant experience in a specialist payroll role.
  • Sound knowledge of payroll legislation including PAYG, superannuation and salary packaging.
  • Experience using HRIS/payroll systems (TechnologyOne is highly regarded).
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to confidentiality.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
