We undertake clinical trials in a real world setting that rely on volunteers from the community to test the effectiveness and safety of new medicines to treat and manage cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. Many of our clinical trials are carried out in collaboration with HeartWest at our Clinical Trial and Research Centre in Hoppers Crossing.
Clinical trial research is important to improve treatment for people with, or at risk of, developing cardiovascular disease. Clinical trials lead to better treatments and outcomes for people; by proving that a treatment is better than current medicines or health measures, it may become the new standard of care in the future.
Current clinical trials
BaxAsia
Testing the safety and efficacy of an aldosterone synthase inhibitor called baxdrostat in patients with high blood pressure that is not responding well to current treatments.
Coral Reef
Testing the safety and efficacy of an oral PCSK9 inhibitor called enlicitide in patients who are at high risk of major cardiovascular events associated with high cholesterol.
RESPIRE HFpEF
Evaluating how well combination therapy with cagrilintide and semaglutide (called CagriSema) works for reducing the risk of heart failure worsening and death in people with heart failure and obesity.
Completed clinical trials
OCEANIC-AF
Investigated the safety and efficacy of a new treatment for atrial fibrillation in 20,000 patients worldwide [phase 3].
