Dr Alex Peh
BSc(Hons) | MSc | PhD in Neurosciences, Monash University
Dr Alex Peh is a postdoctoral researcher committed to understanding and mitigating the impact of stroke, a leading cause of long-term disability and mortality worldwide. Focussed on improving patient recovery outcomes, Dr Peh’s work aims to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and real-world applications.
Dr Peh holds a Bachelor of Biochemistry from Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), a Master of Life Sciences from the University of Tokyo (Japan), and a PhD in Neurosciences from Monash University (Australia). These qualifications have provided a robust foundation for his extensive research.
Concentrating on the intricate mechanisms underlying stroke, Dr Peh’s research delves into the complexities of neuronal damage and the pathways to repair. His work has expanded our knowledge of stroke mechanisms, identifying novel drug targets and improving rehabilitation techniques. One of his prime focuses is developing therapeutic strategies that emphasise immune suppression and anti-inflammation to promote long-term recovery.
Under Professor Karlheinz Peter’s supervision, Dr Peh is involved in various projects aimed at creating novel treatments for stroke. His technical expertise in basic sciences has opened pathways to new pharmacological treatments and advanced rehabilitation techniques. Dr Peh aspires for his research to not only affect individual patient outcomes but also inform global stroke care practices.
