Dr Jordyn Thomas
BBiomedSc(Hons) | PhD, La Trobe University
Jordyn is a postdoctoral researcher in the Heart Failure Research group headed by Professor David Kaye. For her scientific work, Jordyn has been selected as a finalist in award sessions at both national and international conferences, receiving the Hypertension Australia Judith Whitworth abstract award (2019) and the best oral presentation at the Baker/La Trobe Cardiovascular Symposium (2020). Jordyn was also selected to deliver an oral presentation at Experimental Biology (San Diego, USA, 2018), and she was a Young Investigator finalist for the International Society for Heart Research at the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Annual Scientific Meeting (Perth, 2024), Australia New Zealand Society of Nephrology national conference (Sydney, 2018) and The Asian-Pacific Society of Hypertension (Brisbane, 2019). Jordyn’s other passions include raising awareness of cardiovascular disease research and improving scientific literacy, which has led her to participate in the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance Cardiovascular Champions Program, eMentoring for In2Science (2019), 20 PhDs in 20 minutes on 3RRR (2019), Skype a Scientist (2020), 3-minute thesis competition (2018-2020), Pint of Science (#PintAUOnline, 2020) and the Visualise Your Thesis competition (VYT, 2020). Jordyn’s VYT entry was awarded first place in the La Trobe competition and was entered in the international VYT competition.
