Mitchell Hallam

BSc, University of Melbourne | BBioMedSci(Hons), University of Melbourne

Mitchell Hallam completed his Biomed Honours in the Lipid Metabolism and Cardiometabolic Disease laboratory at the Baker Institute in 2022. During this time, he developed an interest in the discovery and characterisation of novel regulators of hepatic lipid metabolism, specifically in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Currently, Mitch is undertaking a PhD at the Baker Institute, jointly in the Molecular Metabolism and Ageing and Cardiac Cellular Systems laboratories. His work will focus on leveraging single-cell RNA sequencing technology to explore pathogenetic modulations in the setting of NAFLD.  This approach will contribute to the understanding of mechanisms underpinning NAFLD and may provide novel insights into potential disease-related biomarkers and therapeutics opportunities. In addition to this, Mitch will investigate the use of nutritional substrates to model pathologies associated with fatty liver in a cellular system.
