Institute news

The Heart Foundation’s latest public campaign is being rolled out including in News Ltd papers, with a focus on the dangers of inactivity and the opportunity to reduce your risk of chronic disease by doing something as accessible as walking every day.

You might have seen headlines like Walk away from a killer on wrap-arounds in major newspapers like the Herald Sun this week, and there will be more to follow.

The message about walking and being active — backed by the Heart Foundation’s grassroots community walking programs — is clearly a message that also aligns with our research, particularly around physical activity and sedentary behaviour.

It is a good public health message that we can support, and it is reassuring to see the Heart Foundation has reframed their public outreach to move away from individual blame.

An editorial this week from the CEO of the Heart Foundation, John Kelly, that outlines their approach toward walking to better health.
