Examining the safety and efficacy of the Android Artificial Pancreas System (AAPS) with advanced bolus free features in adults with type 1 diabetes

Trial team: Associate Professor Neale Cohen, and Dr Natalie Nanayakkara, Ms Erin Boyle and Mr Yasser Elghattis

This trial is investigating a system that measures a person’s glucose levels continuously and then calculates insulin doses and delivers insulin automatically. The system does not require manual insulin administration for meals and is therefore known as an “Advanced bolus free Closed Loop” system. Maintaining glucose levels in a healthy range reduces the risk of long-term damage to the body. The Advanced bolus free Closed Loop insulin delivery system consists of a control algorithm (software programme) that receives and processes real time continuous sensor glucose and automatically adjusts insulin delivery through an insulin pump. This is a prospective randomised multicentre trial being conducted in Australia and New Zealand.
