Chaya Wickramarathne

BSc (Hons), University of Peradeniya | MSc, University of Peradeniya

Chaya Wickramarathne is a PhD candidate in the Atherothrombosis and Vascular Biology laboratory working under the supervision of Professor Karlheinz Peter, Dr Anna Watson and Dr Ahmed Refaat. She pursued her BSc in Applied Sciences and MSc in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

Her research focuses on the development of novel nanotechnology-based therapeutics for the effective treatment of atherosclerosis. She is designing and optimising nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems to target atherosclerotic plaques with high precision, aiming to enhance treatment efficacy while minimising side effects. By leveraging advanced nanotechnology, Chaya seeks to improve current therapeutic strategies and contribute to developing more effective, targeted interventions for cardiovascular diseases. Her work integrates cutting-edge materials science, pharmacology, and biomedical engineering to address one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
