Habiba Danish

BBioMedSc(Hons), University of Melbourne

Habiba Danish began her scientific career in the Atherothrombosis and Vascular Biology laboratory as an Honours student, where she investigated the role of immune cells in cardiovascular disease, focusing on how shear stress activates neutrophils to form extracellular traps (NETs) and the mechanical pathways involved.

Currently, Habiba is a PhD student at RMIT University and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, supervised by Prof Karlheinz Peter and A/Prof Sara Baratchi. Her research centres on understanding how shear stress influences immune cells, particularly monocytes, and their contribution to Calcified Aortic Stenosis (CAS). By exploring how monocytes form extracellular traps under aortic stenosis conditions, she aims to uncover new therapeutic strategies to improve CAS outcomes. With an aging population and the prevalence of CAS in individuals over 65, her work could pave the way for innovative treatments and enhanced quality of life for these patients.
