The Margaret and John Crutch PhD Scholarship (Scholarship) is awarded to an incoming PhD student at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (Baker Institute) to support their PhD candidature in medical research. Supported by Ruth Crutch and Equity Trustees, this scholarship honours Miss Glenys Ruth Crutch's parents, Margaret and John Crutch, and the family’s enduring interest in discovery science.

The opportunity

The Scholarship will support one full-time student up to the value of $50k per annuum (includes associated on-costs) for the duration of their PhD — 3.5 years.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be enrolled or in the process of enrolment at an approved tertiary institution
  • be primarily based at the Baker Institute, and the primary supervisor an employee of the Baker Institute
  • be an Australian permanent resident.

Selection criteria

The Scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who, under the selection process, has been assessed and highly ranked based on academic merit by the Baker Institute. The following conditions apply:

  • Applicants cannot be in receipt of another equivalent award/top-up/stipend in addition to this scholarship or under obligation to an existing sponsor.
  • Scholarships are not transferable, and it is to be relinquished if the recipient ceases study with the Institute.
  • Scholarship funds are not payable in advance and paid monthly.
  • Scholarship funds cannot be taken as cash.
  • Late applications will not be considered.
