Edith James says strength training classes and taking part in a walking group along the Maribrynong River are an important part of her routine to Keep it moving.
When she’s not doing that, the 81-year-old from Essendon who has had type 1 diabetes since 2008 likes to challenge herself by parking as far away as possible to ensure she fits in lots of walking.
Edith is the convenor of the Essendon Diabetes Group, which meets monthly and has regular speakers.
She is among the approximately 50 per cent of people with type 1 diabetes who are diagnosed in adulthood.
The mother and grandmother of three says she knows the importance of being active and says there are lots of ways to fit incidental exercise into your lifestyle, including activities like shopping and gardening.
