Reece Group partnership impact and outcomes

In a transformative collaboration, we partnered with Reece to enhance the health and wellbeing of the Reece community and tradespeople nationwide. Our focus was safeguarding cardiovascular health, supporting the Baker Institute's pursuit of life-saving discoveries and disease diagnosis and prevention advancements.

The Ticker Test: a vital initiative
A key initiative was the Ticker Test, a user-friendly resource designed to raise awareness about heart health. Over 4500 individuals actively participated, spanning staff, customers, and their families. The survey assessed various health indicators, categorising participants into low, medium, or high-risk groups for cardiovascular disease.

Participation insights (4511 fully completed the survey)
The survey revealed notable insights, with most participants falling within the 20–40 age bracket. Health influences included diet, lack of physical activity, and poor-quality sleep. Shockingly, only a quarter met recommended exercise levels, and the 50-and-above age group displayed a tendency to insufficient exercise. Thirty per cent had a familial history of heart attacks, a known risk factor.

Findings and implications
Two key factors, insufficient exercise and being overweight, significantly impacted health. Our estimations suggest nearly 60 per cent of participants above 40 may have early-stage, asymptomatic diseases. This underscores the potential benefits of proactive interventions targeting cardiovascular risk factors.

Community engagement and action
The Reece community displayed high engagement, with half achieving optimal activity levels. However, less than 8 per cent paid sufficient attention to all five dietary components, emphasising the need for nutritional improvements.

Partnership impact
The collaboration with Reece significantly heightened health awareness. The Ticker Test provided valuable insights for both organisations. Notably, 4 per cent of participants took the initiative to consult their general practitioner concerning heart health. We hope these individuals utilised the GP cheat sheet provided. However, less than 1 per cent sought medical assistance for mental wellbeing.

This partnership has proven mutually beneficial, reinforcing the Baker Institute's commitment to impactful health interventions and Reece's dedication to the wellbeing of its community. We look forward to building on these successes in future collaborations.
