Yvette Schooneveldt

BSc Biomed (Hons), Monash University

In 2020, Yvette completed her Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) under the supervision of Professor Peter Meikle and Dr Anna Calkin in the Metabolomics Laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Research institute. Her research focused on characterising the effect of statins on lipid metabolism.

Currently, Yvette is undertaking her PhD jointly in the Metabolomics Laboratory and Lipid Metabolism and Cardiometabolic Disease Laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Research institute. Her work combines tandem mass spectrometry with large human cohorts and cell biology to define the underlying mechanistic and biological functions of plasmalogens in metabolic diseases. This work will contribute to identifying the role of plasmalogens in obesity and may provide novel insights into their therapeutic potential.
