The opportunity
We’re on the look-out for an experienced solutions-focused IT Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team.
As the IT Systems Administrator you will work closely with the IT Infrastructure Manager and with your colleagues in infrastructure, service desk, security, and operations teams. You will oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and support of the organisation's IT infrastructure, ensuring stable, secure, and high-performing servers, networks, and systems. Your role also includes incident resolution, system upgrades, backup management, and user access administration, whilst also contributing to the delivery of infrastructure projects and improvements.
How this role makes a difference
As our new IT Systems Administrator, you will work closely with the IT Support team, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues. You will assist the IT Infrastructure Manager in managing voice and data networks, systems, and servers across the organisation. Additionally, you will contribute to the IT Infrastructure team's strategic direction by providing technical guidance and ensuring industry-leading security practices are implemented to maintain secure and efficient IT systems.
You will become a valued member of our innovative IT team at the Institute. Through this key role, you can contribute to our vision to help people to live healthier for longer, and to stop heart disease and diabetes in their tracks.
How you'll make an impact
In this role you will be expected to:
- System & Network Maintenance – Monitor, maintain, and proactively develop servers, networks, and system software to ensure high availability and performance.
- Troubleshooting & Support – Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues while providing Tier 2 technical support for escalated problems.
- Security & Compliance – Enforce security protocols, assist with compliance requirements, and ensure best practices are followed across all systems.
- Infrastructure Management – Support infrastructure projects, maintain virtual server environments, storage systems, collaborate with vendors on network configuration and provide regular updates on system health, issues, and project progress to stakeholders.
- Upgrades & Performance Monitoring – Implement software patches, upgrades, and hotfixes, while proactively monitoring system performance and capacity planning.
- Evaluate emerging technologies - Stay informed about the latest advancements in technology, assess their relevance and suitability and advise on their potential benefits to the institute.
What will you bring?
You will have:
- Knowledge of configuration management (e.g. Beyond Trust EPM, Action 1) would be highly desirable.
- Relevant qualifications in Information Technology or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience within Systems Administration with a solutions-focussed approach and excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and provide empathetic and responsive support for end users.
- Extensive experience in Windows Active Directory, ADFS, Office 365 federation, and Windows/Linux server administration.
- Expertise in networking, VMware virtualisation, cloud technologies, and DELL-EMC storage systems.
- Strong understanding of networking principles, protocols, SSL management, and infrastructure automation.
- Proficient in scripting, containerisation, configuration management, and enterprise security tools.
- Experience in Microsoft Exchange, backup solutions, and database management.
